Chapter 2 / Uploading Your Blank Canvas

"Web Site Building-101"

Now It Gets Fun.

I want you to Click Here to open the page where your blank canvas template lives. It will open in a new window. After it opens you may need to flash back over to this page, to follow through with the next few steps.

Does it look familiar? That's right, that is the same template I used to build websitebuilding-101 sales page. Have a look again, to refresh your memory. I purposely did that so that you can truly see the possibilities behind just one simple, good template, there endless... I have used this same template on several of my past projects, and it is actually very popular. Now that your on the inside so to speak, you will probably start seeing this same one being used all over the place. Similar fonts, colors, and or lay out.

Now, with the template open, I want you to click on the "view" tab in your Internet explorer tool bar, 3rd from the left, at the top of the page where the template is. Left click on "source." This will open up a text document in a new window. This is what's known as the html code that lies in the background of every single web page on the entire Internet!

Next, select "File," again in your IE tool bar at the top of the page and left click on "Save As..." Let's save this html page to your desktop, so navigate through the top choices in the file save box that popped up, until you see Desktop. Select Desktop. You can name the file whatever you like but it must be in all lowercase, with no spaces, and be followed by .html

Example: yourblankcanvas.html

You will have to erase what is in the File name line first (prob. says yourblankcanvas) then type in: myblankcanvas.html or whatever you want to name it. The name can be changed later, once your project is really underway. When you are sure of the destination (your desktop) and that the file name is all lowercase, no spaces, and followed by .html you are ready to click  Save. Click save now.

You can now close the html file window with all that crazy code on it. You should now have an icon on your desktop called myblankcanvas, or whatever you named it. I know that when using Internet Explorer, this icon is created with a
blue e.

Your doing great! One thing you should know at this point in the game is this... When working online there can be frustrations at times and roadblocks along the way. Just like in any business, there will be obstacles to get through, over, or under. The important thing is to remember that you are learning, and you will get er' done!

Let's now maximize the NVU editor again, and get ready to open your blank canvas (on your desktop now) into the editor. With the NVU page open, click on the File tab top left in the tool bar. Next select Open File. You will have to "Look In" your desktop, then find the page we saved as the template.

Once you find the blank template file on your desktop, through NVU, just click on it and it will open up inside the editor.

You can now start the creative juices a flowin because, the sky is the limit to what you can do with this page. Let's move onto chapter 3 and start talking about implementing some cool and easy customizing techniques.
